How does a Search Engine Work ?<\/strong>
\nSearch engines perform several activities in order to deliver search results.<\/h1>\n\u2022 Crawling<\/strong> – Process of fetching all the web pages linked to a website. This task is performed by a software called a crawler or a spider (or Googlebot, in case of Google).<\/p>\n\u2022 Indexing<\/strong> – Process of creating index for all the fetched web pages and keeping them into a giant database from where it can later be retrieved. Essentially, the process of indexing is identifying the words and expressions that best describe the page and assigning the page to particular keywords.<\/p>\n\u2022 Processing<\/strong> – When a search request comes, the search engine processes it, i.e., it compares the search string in the search request with the indexed pages in the database.<\/p>\n\u2022 Calculating Relevancy<\/strong> – It is likely that more than one page contains the search string, so the search engine starts calculating the relevancy of each of the pages in its index to the search string.<\/p>\n\u2022 Retrieving Results<\/strong> – The last step in search engine activities is retrieving the best matched results. Basically, it is nothing more than simply displaying them in the browser.<\/p>\nSearch Engine Optimization Process :<\/strong><\/h1>\nBefore beginning a search engine optimization (SEO) project, it is important to understand the process involved in an effective SEO campaign. To that end, we break the process down into the six steps shown below and describe the activities involved in each of these steps.<\/p>\n
One word on search engine optimization in general first, though. SEO does not start and finish with these steps and the initial work that we do. In order to have ongoing success, it is important to monitor results and build meaningful content on a continual basis.<\/p>\n
